How to Flash a New USB Initboot for TOS on Your Windows PC?

Problem Description:
The initBoot contains some programs that are used to configure the basic hardware before TOS is started, and these programs are stored in a USB flash drive. Unexpected power outages, abnormal shutdowns, and hardware failures can all cause the initBoot to fail. If your x.86 TNAS cannot be started normally, and the device cannot be searched when booting without a hard disk, it is most likely that the initBoot is faulty.

Solution
Step 1. Remove the initboot inside the TNAS, or prepare a USB flash disk without data. Connect the USB flash drive to Windows PC, right click "Start", open "Disk Management" to confirm its capacity.

Step 2. Create a folder named for example "D:\USB" and download the USB flashing program TMusbflashing.exe to D:\USB
TMusbflashing.exe(md5:4e37831d1f41905f898dae6924398168)

Step 3. Select the corresponding image file according to the TNAS model and download it to folder D:\USB and then rename the image file to "usb_boot.img".

Note: If your USB capacity does not reach 120 MB, please select the 60 MB version of the image file.

Step 4.Remove all other USB flash drives from your Windows PC and connect only the USB flash drive you plan to use for USB InitBoot. Please ensure that no other applications or processes are accessing the USB drive, as this may result in a failed burn process.

Step 5.Right-click "Start", open "Windows PowerShell(Admin)" or "Terminal(Admin)".

Enter the following command:

Code:

cd D:\USB

Code:

.\TMusbflashing.exe
If it prompts "Select a USB device (1-1): 1", it means the USB flash drive you are currently using is indeed the only USB flash drive, please enter "1" to continue;

Code:

Select a USB device (1-1):
If it is "(1-2)" or any other combination of numbers, you have other USB flash drives that are connected to your Windows PC, please remove the other USB flash drives and start step 5 again.

Code:

Select a USB device (1-2):
If it finally prompts "Image write complete.", it means the USB Initboot flashing is completed.

Code:

Writing image to \\.\PHYSICALDRIVE3...Image write complete.
Step 6. After flashing Initboot is finished, you can connect the USB flash drive back to TNAS for use.

Step 7.If step 5 fails, or the Initboot you just flashed does not run on the TNAS. Please try to erase the USB flash drive with a hard disk utility, or replace the USB flash drive, and try again.

Code:

Writing image to \\.\PHYSICALDRIVE4...Failed to write cleared MBR. Error code: 5
