Hardware, Power and Accessories • Migrating from other brand NAS to F6-424

Hi all,

I hope I post in the correct forum. I am considering replacing my old Synology ( 2x 4TB: RAID 5) and Netgear (4x4TB: X-RAID) with F6-424, but I still have doubts in the migration process, as I want to keep and use all the discs that I have.

So far, I am thinking of doing the following:
1. Use a new 4 TB disc (Disc A) as a backup and copy the data from Synology, which contains only half the total capacity, to disc A.
2. Then, I'll move the two discs from Synology to create a new volume on F6-424 in RAID 5. (F6 has 2 Discs)
3. Copy back the data from Disc A to two discs in F6-424.
4. Copy the data from Netgear until I have more space in Netgear, and replace one disc on Netgear (Disc B) with the Disc A
5. Install Disc B to F6-424 and continue to copy the rest of the data from Netgear to F6-242. These three discs are enough to hold all my data from Synology and Netgear. (F6 has 3 discs)
6. Lastly, I'll add the remaining discs (3 discs, excluding Disc A) to the F6-242.
7. Finale: I shall have back all six discs from Synology and Netgear on F6-242.

Does the plan make sense? Or can you suggest a better approach?
Thanks a lot.
